Born in Russia, April 1986 as Natasha Sweetnov, Nutcracker Sweet was the only daughter of beloved chocolatier Dmitri Sweetnov, made famous by his Moscow candy shop, Sweet’s Sweets. At 15, Natasha left Russia to front the critically acclaimed but wildly unpopular sub-pop group The Toothaches. In 2002, Natasha was christened Nutcracker Sweet by Pitchfork magazine due to her innately aggressive response to male genitalia.
When The Toothaches disbanded in 2004, Sweet joined Canadian indie-rock group The New Confectioners, but was asked to leave in 2006 due to “irreconcilable differences”. Currently, Nutcracker Sweet resides at an anger management facility in Southern Indiana, where she is learning to channel her anger into needle point, watercolor painting, and flat track roller derby.
