Bleeding Heartland is hosting our 7th annual B-team tournament on May 20-22, 2017 and we would like to invite your league to participate. Apply here!

The goal of this tournament is to assemble a mix of WFTDA B-teams for some badass derby action–we select teams based on criteria including WFTDA rank, prior participation at B Cup, and geography. We try to get teams old and new, near and far!

The seventh annual “B-Cup” will be an eight-team tourney run according to WFTDA rules and standard practices. We will again be able to guarantee all participating leagues 3 games, (please see the example bracket below). Previous years’ participants have included B-teams from Montreal, Madison, Minnesota, Arch Rival, Toronto, Naptown, Nashville, Windy City, Cincinnati and many more! We are planning to submit referee evaluations at this event in an effort to recruit the best refs possible, so please encourage your league’s referees to apply! (Officials application will be available soon.)

The tournament will be held at Frank Southern Ice Arena. It is only a couple of miles away from downtown Bloomington and our sponsoring hotels. The arena is an excellent facility with a polished concrete floor. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions about it.

→The tournament application is due November 18, 2016. Apply with this form.

We will notify you by December 2, 2016 if you are accepted to participate in the tournament, and you will then have until February 3, 2017 to submit your payment. Entry fees are $500 per team. We ask that only B-teams, not home teams or A-teams apply to this tournament. Please send all questions to ilc.bhrd@gmail.com.

Fall 2016 Boot Camp

We’re looking for skaters and refs—no experience required! We’ll teach you what you need to know at our six-week training boot camp from September 19 to October 29. Whether you come in fresh or had  a taste for derby at our skills camp, this is a great opportunity to get in on the action!

What: A six-week boot camp to get YOU ready for team placements!

Who: This boot camp is for all new skaters, including those already in our Disorderlies program!

Where: Our badass warehouse, the Cardiac Arena (known to most as 1801 N. Curry Pike, at the corner of Curry Pike and Vernal Pike)

When: Mondays and Thursdays from 7-9 p.m. and Saturdays from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
(Begins Monday, Sept. 19th, with an optional gear information session/gear sizing on Thursday, Sept. 15)

How much: $60 for the boot camp + If you do not have primary insurance$40 for WFTDA insurance = $60-$100.

Why: Because BHRD wants YOU!

Boot camp is $60-$100, which is $60 for the bootcamp itself and $40 for insurance through WFTDA, if you do not have primary insurance, which would need to be paid before you can skate at the Cardiac Arena. If you have primary insurance, you will not need to buy WFTDA insurance until after bootcamp, if you choose to continue. You will also need your own skates and gear, but we do have some gear available to rent if you need to. Figuring out what gear you need can be overwhelming, but not to worry — following our Skills Camp on Sept. 12, we’ll have an optional gear information/sizing session on Thursday, Sept. 15 to kick-off the boot camp, during which we’ll give you the lowdown on all things gear-related. We will also have Vital Skates available to get you fitted and to purchase your very own gear. Or, once you’re armed with knowledge, you can order gear online, go to Vital Skates in Indy, or look for used gear in good condition locally or online. We’ll be happy to help you figure out what you need.

IMPORTANT DATES

Gear Information/Sizing Session on Thursday, Sept. 15: We’ll educate you about the necessary derby gear and have Vital Skates available to get you fitted for you very own pair of skates and derby gear.

Monday, Sept. 19: First day of our boot camp. This will be a day for paperwork to get you started (not on skates), and you can observe a league practice.

Thursday, September 22: First day of boot camp on skates. Any gear you ordered from Vital on the 15th will arrive.

Saturday, October 22: Last day of our bootcamp.

Thursday, Oct. 27 and Saturday, Oct. 29: After our boot camp ends, participants who have passed their WFTDA minimum skills test will have two chances to skate in scrimmages, which will also be used to determine league placement. The Saturday evening scrimmage will be open to the public, so your friends and family can come and cheer you on!

SCHEDULE RUNDOWN:

Mondays, 7-9 p.m.—From 7-8 p.m., you’ll skate with our league members, and from 8-9 p.m., we’ll have off-skates discussion planned for you.

Thursdays, 7-9 p.m.—Thursdays are Disorderlies practices—you’ll do technical skills/footwork drills with the league, and learn about derby gameplay and rules.

Saturdays, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.—Off-skates training and open laps (to practice skills learned during the week).
